Bengaluru Police on Friday arrested Aarav Hanoy, the main suspect in the murder of Assam-based vlogger Maya Gogoi from Kerala, and is expected to bring him back to Bengaluru later tonight, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) East confirmed, reported India Today.
The 21-year-old suspect is a native of Kerala's Thottada in Kannur and worked as a student counselor at a private organisation in Bengaluru. Police stated that he and Maya had been in a relationship for six months after meeting on social media and stated that tension in their relationship may have caused the death of the vlogger. Police recovered Maya Gogoi's body from a service apartment in Indira Nagar on Tuesday after apartment staff unlocked the room after getting a foul smell from the apartment.
Maya was found dead with several injuries in several parts of her body, especially at her chest and head. The police suspected that the death of Maya was because of a deep wound to her chest. The body also showed signs of decompositions, which indicated that crime occurred earlier Sunday night.
The investigation from police revealed that the accused had already planned the murder as he bought a nylon rope and carried a knife with him. The suspicion against Aarav increased as he could be seen leaving the apartment alone in the early hours of Tuesday in the recovered CCTV footage. The police later gathered crucial evidence by questioning the driver who transported him from the location.
The deceased originally belonged to Kailash Nagar in Guwahati and was living in Bengaluru with her sister. She worked in Koramangala and informed her sister that she would not return home on Friday evening due to an office party. However, she did not come back in the weekend either and reportedly checked into the service apartment with Aarav on November 24. Police later also revealed that the accused stayed in the apartment with the body for two days before fleeing the scene.
