Bengaluru News: Amid sparked controversy, Bengaluru police on Monday stated that a 30-year-old man from Bihar has been arrested in western Bengaluru for assaulting three cows. The police informed that the accused is Sheikh Nasru, who chopped the udders of the cows while he was intoxicated. The incident has escalated a massive controversy, especially from the Hindutva groups, demanding strong action against the culprit.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) S Girish confirmed that the accused has been taken into custody, adding that no one else was involved in the case. “He has been remanded in judicial custody. No one else is involved in the offence,” Girish was quoted as saying by the Deccan Herald. He also assured that the cows were out of danger after receiving proper treatment.

The police have registered a case under BNS Section 325 (mischief by killing or maiming an animal). The police action took place following the warnings from the BJP leaders. The saffron party stated that ‘Black Sankranti’ will be celebrated if no action is taken.

The matter came into light after a local passenger found the three cows bleeding in the Old Pension Mohalla of Vinayaknagar. The passenger informed about the injury to the caretakers of the cow around 4.30 am. Karna, the caretaker, informed that while a teat of one of the cows had been completely severed, the teats of the other two cows were chopped and were hanging.

He stated that a teat is the nipple of a cow from where the animal discharges the milk. He stated that the cows were rushed to the veterinary hospital, and he later filed a police complaint too.

The opposition party BJP and other local Hindutva groups staged a protest demanding strong action against the culprit. Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly R Ashoka visited the spot, and he condemned the act. He also pointed out that law and order under the present Congress government is not in a good condition.
