Bengaluru News: In response to the recent increase in bus fares, the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has announced a rise in bus pass prices, effective from Thursday.
The price for an ordinary daily pass has increased from Rs 70 to Rs 80. The cost of a weekly pass has also gone up, now priced at Rs 350, up from Rs 300. Meanwhile, the ordinary monthly pass has seen a significant rise from Rs 1,050 to Rs 1,200. For commuters using buses on the NICE Road, the monthly pass will now cost Rs 2,350, compared to the previous rate of Rs 2,200.

For those travelling on Vajra AC buses, the daily pass has increased from Rs 120 to Rs 140, while the monthly pass has risen from Rs 1,800 to Rs 2,000. Additionally, the monthly pass for Vayu Vajra services—AC buses that connect to Kempegowda International Airport—has been adjusted to Rs 4,000, up from Rs 3,755. Students commuting on AC buses will also face increased costs, with the monthly pass now priced at Rs 1,400 instead of Rs 1,200.
The Karnataka government recently implemented fare hikes across all state-run bus services, including those of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) and Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KKRTC), effective January 5.
Explaining the rationale behind this decision, the transport minister stated that diesel prices have significantly risen since the last fare revision in 2015, when diesel was priced at Rs 60.90 per litre. He noted that BMTC’s daily diesel expenses have surged from Rs 9.16 crore to Rs 13.21 crore and staff-related costs have climbed from Rs 12.95 crore to Rs 18.36 crore. The government stated that the fare revision is essential to alleviate the mounting financial pressures on transport corporations.
