Bengaluru News: Six months after the mysterious death of a Bengaluru-based dermatologist, police have arrested her husband, who is also a doctor, for allegedly murdering her by injecting an overdose of an anaesthetic drug.
The accused, Dr. Mahendra Reddy, a general surgeon, was arrested from Manipal on October 14. His wife, Dr. Kruthika Reddy, a practising dermatologist, had died on April 21 at their residence in Munnekollal, East Bengaluru. The couple, both associated with Victoria Hospital, had been married less than a year, since May 26, 2023.
Crime Scene Evidence Points To Anaesthetic Overdose
The NDTV report cited Police as stating that, Dr. Reddy allegedly injected his wife with Propofol, a strong anaesthetic drug, causing her death. Initially, the incident was treated as an unnatural death and registered at Marathahalli Police Station. However, evidence collected later raised suspicion.
During the inspection, forensic teams recovered a cannula set, injection tube and other medical supplies from their home. These items were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for testing.
Forensic Report Confirms Drug Poisoning
The FSL results confirmed the presence of Propofol in Kruthika’s viscera, indicating that she had been administered the drug before death. Following this revelation, the victim’s father filed a formal complaint on October 13, alleging that his son-in-law had intentionally overdosed his daughter.
Police Investigation Reveals Suspect’s Intent
The NDTV report cited Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh as stating that, the evidence gathered so far strongly points to the husband’s involvement. “He was the one who brought her to the hospital and did not disclose anything unusual. The forensic report now confirms she was injected with sedatives, suggesting a criminal act,” he said.
Investigators are now examining whether the accused had planned the act in advance and used his medical expertise to make the death appear natural.
