Karnataka Industries Minister MB Patil on Saturday announced that the state government will advance the initiative to develop ‘SWIFT City’ in Sarjapura. He revealed in a press conference that the SWIFT City would become Karnataka's third big planned industrial hub after Electronic City and ITPL. He added that the project would mainly focus on the activities that provide a financial boost for the state, including startups, workspaces, innovation, finance, and technology.
Patil, while addressing the reporters, said that the step was taken in order to provide a boost to the business opportunities in the state. He stated that many stakeholders had expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of planned workspaces and the state government was planning to address their issues.
"Despite the presence of thousands of companies in Bengaluru, many stakeholders have expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of well-planned workspaces. To address this, we will provide 150-ft-wide connecting roads in Sarjapura and ensure world-class facilities, including residential clusters and schools," the State Large and Medium Industries Minister was quoted as saying by the Economic Times.
The government announced that Sarjapura is set to become a key location in the state's industrial growth because of its location. Sarjapura is strategically located near National Highways 44 and 48, and it is also close to Bengaluru's IT city. The government further informed that over 1,000 acres of land have been earmarked by the authorities for the ambitious project. The project is set to offer small and medium-sized startups flexible workspace options.
Patil also pointed out that the larger vision of the state government is to transform Karnataka into a ‘Silicon State.’ He emphasised that while the capital city, Bengaluru, is already known as the Silicon City, the main aim is to transform the whole state. “While Bengaluru is already recognised as the Silicon City, our objective is to expand this recognition across the entire state,” Patil stated.
