Bengaluru News: The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) is reportedly planning to bring more roads of the capital city under the pay-and-park scheme. The authority has already brought 23 CBD roads under the scheme to boost the revenue, stating that the state is set to announce several projects in the upcoming months. It further stated that the scheme will provide relief to thousands of commuters, as they can reserve parking online through a mobile application. The Bengaluru Central City Corporation has already floated a tender for the private operators to collect parking fees on these roads. The scheme will offer space for parking to the commuters, which might reduce traffic congestion in the key regions of the tech city.

While providing details, GBA Chief Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao stated that other corporations will also float tenders based on the response. "Bids for the tenders floated by the Central City Corporation open tomorrow. Based on the response, other corporations will identify and float tenders," Rao was quoted as saying by the Deccan Herald. Apart from this, the authority is also considering marking parking slots virtually to provide convenience to the commuters.

"If we mark slots virtually, citizens can reserve parking online through a web or mobile application. This will make it easier for the public as well," Rao stated. Several roads of the city, including Commercial Street, Cambridge Road, Wood Street, Castle Street, Magrath Road, Church Street, Museum Road, Crescent Road, Brigade Road, and Sampige Road, are set for the pay-and-park scheme.

While the commuters have reportedly stated that the scheme was unaffordable, the GBA stated that it followed government rules for collecting fees. "We are only following government rules for collecting fees. The guidance value reflects the worth of the property, so we have to depend on it," Rao emphasised.
