In a major push to solve the parking crisis in the ‘Silicon Valley of India’, the Bengaluru police have identified 66 spots for building Multi-Level Car Parking (MLCP) facilities. Most of these facilities will be built around high-footfall and commercial hubs. The sites are planned near metro parking plots, nearby junctions, and on roadside government land.

What Is An MLCP?

An MLCP is an automated/semi-automated technology that lifts cars using hydraulic platforms or robotic systems to stack cars vertically and horizontally. Each floor can house more than 400 cars, while a total of 10 floors are there (G+9) with seven lifts.

How Will MLCP Help People Of Bengaluru?

According to Deccan Herald, quoting Greater Bengaluru Authority Chief Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao, the system will eliminate the space required for circulation ramps and driveways, maximising the capacity in a limited space. Drivers will have to simply leave their vehicle at an entry bay, and the automated system uses sensors and computerised tracking to store and retrieve it, reducing retrieval time and manual intervention.

“The city is grappling with major parking issues and this system is among the many solutions mooted,” he said. The entire cost of the project will be borne by the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), and the entire project will be built under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

The authorities believe that the initiative will be a good alternative to the usual towing away of wrongly parked cars. “The system has already been implemented in Hyderabad and needs to be implemented immediately in Bengaluru,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Karthik Reddy.

BMRCL Floats Tender For DPR Of Green Line Extension

In a separate development, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) has reportedly floated a tender for the preparation of a detailed project report (DPR) for the extension of the Namma Metro services to Tumakuru.

The metro authority stated that the extension of the Green Line will severely benefit the commuters by cutting the travel time and reducing traffic congestion. While currently the Green Line operates between Madavara and Silk Institute, the 59.6-km-long corridor will extend the services to Tumakuru. Apart from providing relief to the commuters, the extended services are also set to boost the financial activities.
