According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Karthik Reddy, the bus broke down on the main carriageway, blocking a key entry and exit route. “A BMTC bus broke down on the main carriageway, the key entry and exit point of IRR, causing severe traffic congestion. The incident occurred during the peak hours. A crane had to be called in and several people had to push the bus,” he said.

Commuters were advised to avoid the stretch between Ecospace Junction and Marathahalli, including Kadubeesanahalli, Devarabisanahalli and Bellandur, due to slow-moving traffic.

Motorists were urged to take alternate routes via HSR Layout, Sarjapur Main Road, or Varthur Road to bypass the jam. Police also advised checking Google Maps live updates for real-time diversions.

Bengaluru Metro Works And Diversions Added To Gridlock

While the bus breakdown was the main cause, other factors worsened the congestion. The closure of service roads for ongoing Blue Line Metro construction and white-topping work on Panathur Main Road diverted additional vehicles onto ORR, intensifying the chaos.

Last week, police had already issued an advisory warning of traffic restrictions between the 9th Main Road Junction and 5th Main Road Junction on ORR for 45 days due to BMRCL construction.

By late evening, police reported gradual clearance but said congestion was likely to recur during peak hours if similar disruptions occur.
