Bengaluru: Responding swiftly to citizens' concerns, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has taken charge of addressing the city’s persistent pothole problem. Following appeals from young residents in Carmelaram who were struggling every day to get to school due to damaged roads, the government has acted promptly by fixing the potholes to improve road conditions.
“A few weeks ago, some young Bengalureans wrote to me about the potholes in Carmelaram and how they were struggling every day to get to school. We listened, we acted, and today those potholes have been fixed - easing mobility for everyone in the area. Once the rains stop, we’ll asphalt the roads to ensure a smoother, safer commute,” DK Shivakumar wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Earlier this month, Shivakumar visited Yelahanka to inspect ongoing road repairs and pothole-filling initiatives. While emphasising the government’s dual approach for immediate fixes and long-term solutions, he reaffirmed the commitment to enhancing Bengaluru’s road infrastructure.
“A City That Moves Forward! Visited Bengaluru in Yelahanka today to personally inspect ongoing road repairs and pothole-filling work. We’re actively listening to citizens and taking their concerns about potholes seriously. Change is underway,” he said.
Fix My Street App: Bengaluru Potholes Reporting Made Easy
He further credited the “Fix My Street” app for identifying and solving problems in several parts of Bengaluru efficiently. The Fix My Street app, created by the charity mySociety, is a platform which allows residents to report local issues such as potholes, broken streetlights, and litter directly to the concerned authorities.
The app is available on both smartphones and the web and allows users to submit complaints with precise location information. Once the complaint is registered, reports are forwarded to the concerned authorities and updates are shared via SMS or email.
“We’re constantly listening to you and working to make Namma Bengaluru better, step by step,” he added.
Netizens Reaction
The post by D K Shivakumar garnered mixed reactions on the internet. While some praised his hands-on approach in addressing Bengaluru’s pothole issues, others expressed concerns about the effectiveness of the government’s solutions and reported pothole problems in their area.
“That's wonderful, DKShivakumar Sir. A big relief indeed for the residents of the area,” a user wrote. Another user said, “Sir all the interior roads and some main roads of Whitefield, Munnekollala, Kadugodi, Mahadevapura are in worst condition. May I know how to get your attention to get these repaired? “
