Bengaluru Rain: Heavy rainfall in Bengaluru caused disruptions at the Kempegowda International Airport, resulting in the diversion of nine flights to Chennai on Sunday, May 12. The operator of Bengaluru International Airport (BIAL) attributed the diversions to the inclement weather conditions, including heavy rain and lightning in the area.

During the timeframe from 11:18 pm to 11:54 pm on May 12, no flights were able to land at Kempegowda Airport, as confirmed by a BIAL spokesperson. Out of the 11 diverted flights, seven were domestic and four were international, as per the Monney Control report.

International flights that were diverted included those from Thai Airways (TG 325) and Thai Lion Air (SL 216) from Bangkok, Air France (AF 194) from Paris, and KLM (KL 879) from Amsterdam.

Normal operations at Bengaluru Airport resumed after midnight once the weather conditions improved, as confirmed by BIAL.

In addition to airport disruptions, heavy rainfall also led to instances of waterlogging in different parts of the city, including Bilekahalli near Bannerghatta Road and Roopena Agrahara near Electronic City, according to traffic police officials. The Kempegowda International Airport, located near Devanahalli in North Bengaluru, approximately 40 km from the central business district, also experienced waterlogging due to the heavy downpour.
