Bengaluru News: Residents of the Judicial Layout area located in northern Bengaluru have written a letter to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) about the dilapidated state of the roads. The locality is home to IAS officers, judges, and other senior government officials.
Judicial Layout is located near Thalaghattapura off Kanakapura Road. It falls under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) limits. Contrary to the name, conditions are far from ‘greater’ in the locality, as the residents are plagued with dug-up roads, temporarily fixed with mud, which gets corroded after a patch of rainfall.
The area has become the prime example of civic neglect, which has frustrated the residents so much so that even the children are writing poems to the authorities. In their letters, addressed to both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, children have used the term ‘thatta’ for them, which means “grandpa” in Kannada.
"Modi thatha, Siddaramaiah thatha, why is our road like this? Everywhere you look, it's full of potholes, rocks, and mud," the letter stated. Further, the children wrote in Kannada, "Dad pays taxes, mom pays taxes, but everywhere you look, there are holes, rocks, and mud. They pay tax on petrol, tax on diesel, tax on cars, but everywhere you look, there are holes, rocks, and mud."
In the concluding part of the letter, the residents asked the important question, “When will you fix our roads?”
The persistent problem of the roads is a major problem for the residents, who have referred to them as ‘death traps’. Resident Sujai Kumar, who is living in the Providence Square Park in the Judicial Layout, remarked that the bad condition of the roads remains like a ‘ticking time bomb’ for the residents.
“It is a ticking time bomb and a potential threat to the safety of residents, considering there are so many apartment complexes, schools, and government officials residing there. We need accountability from the local bodies. It's a shame that despite such high-profile people living in the neighbourhood, the road is in such bad condition,” he said, quoted by Hindustan Times.
