Nupur Bora Case: A team of the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell has arrested an Assam Civil Services officer, Nupur Bora, for embezzlement of funds amounting to more than Rs 1.7 crore. During the raids at her flat in the Shine Shanti Greeno Apartments, the officials recovered Rs 92 lakh in cash and jewellery worth over Rs 1 crore, while Rs 10 lakh was also found at her other rented property.
Subsequently, the Vigilance Cell arrested Nupur Bora in relation to the case. Several property ownership documents were also confiscated from the premises, in addition to cash.
According to officials, she was under surveillance for the last six months over allegations of involvement in land embezzlement.

Who Is Nupur Bora?
Born in 1989, Nupur Bora completed her Bachelor’s from Gauhati University. She was also part of the prestigious Cotton College.
After her studies, Nupur joined the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) as a lecturer.
She cleared the Assam Civil Services in 2019 and has been part of the bureaucracy for the past six years. Her last posting was in Goroimari, Kamrup.
Her career in the bureaucracy started in Karbi Anglong, where she was posted as an Assistant Commissioner from March 2019 to June 2023. She was later transferred to Barpeta as Circle Officer before being transferred to Kamrup.
Currently, Nupur remains suspended from her post and is under investigation by the Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell.
Reacting to the developments, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the government is committed to bringing corruption to a standstill and ensuring transparency in governmental administration.
''This officer had transferred Hindu land to suspicious individuals in exchange for money when she was posted in the Barpeta revenue circle. We have taken strict action against her,'' he said.
