As Bengaluru residents face parking woes around the bustling roads in the city, they will now be able to park their vehicles in the Karnataka High Court facility near the old KGID building in Cubbon Park on Sundays and High Court non-working Saturdays.

On Thursday, Bengaluru Traffic Police issued an advisory noting that vehicles will be permitted on the aforementioned days from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm by paying the fee.

"Visitors to Cubbon Park are encouraged to avail this facility and avoid parking on roads leading to Cubbon Park," the advisory read.

Commuters can now enter from Dr BR Ambedkar Road and exit after crossing the Karnataka State Bar Council and Press Club, onto CTO Junction, the advisory added.

Deputy Director of Horticulture (Cubbon Park), G Kusuma, said that so far, the parking lot was not open for the public on weekends.

She told Deccan Herrald, "The traffic police had written to the High Court seeking permission to allow a paid parking facility for the public on High Court non-working days, which are Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays. The High Court has given its permission, so this will begin from this Sunday (April 20)."

The new facility is expected to ease traffic congestion during the weekends, especially Sundays.

What will have to be paid?

According to the Bengaluru Traffic Police, the price for parking in the High Court facility will be similar to the existing rates elsewhere in Cubbon Park. As per the current pricing system, bikers will have to pay Rs 15 while car parking will be available for Rs 25 for the first three hours.

After that, the applicable fee for bikes and cars will be Rs 25 and Rs 50 respectively.
