Bengaluru News: A 24-year-old woman staying at a co-living paying guest (PG) accommodation in Bengaluru was attacked and allegedly harassed by a fellow resident. Police said the accused, identified as Babu alias Saibabu Channur, entered her room around 3 AM on September 16 and assaulted her after she resisted his advances.

According to the woman’s statement, she opened the door thinking it was a friend, but Channur forced his way inside. He then locked the door, pulled out a knife and stabbed her in the back. The complaint mentions that the accused partially removed her clothes, took photographs, kissed her forcibly and touched her inappropriately. He allegedly threatened to kill her if she resisted and demanded that she cooperate in sexual activity, as reported by a India Today report.

The woman told him she was on her periods and asked him to leave. Before leaving, he allegedly threatened to harm her and himself if she refused further.

Police said the accused demanded Rs 70,000 from the woman and when she said she had no money, took her phone and transferred Rs 14,000 to his account through Google Pay. He warned her against reporting the incident, saying he would circulate the photographs to her parents and friends.

The victim contacted her friend Nandagopal, who took her to Manipal Hospital around 7 AM. Doctors confirmed stab wounds on her back. The police recorded her complaint at the hospital, where she is still undergoing treatment.

The Whitefield Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) and arrested the accused. Officers confirmed that he is an engineer staying in the same PG and had been harassing the woman for some time. Police said appropriate legal proceedings have been initiated against him and he is currently in custody.
