Begaluru Stampede: In a shocking development, the mother of a Bengaluru stampede victim on Thursday claimed that her daughter's gold earrings were stolen during the autopsy.
Ashwini, the mother of 18-year-old Divyanshi, who died in the stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL victory parade on June 4, has filed a police complaint at the Commercial Street police station.
In the complaint, Ashwini stated that when her daughter's body was handed over to her after the autopsy, the earrings were missing. The said earrings were gifted to Divyanishi by her uncle a year and a half ago and thus carried deep sentimental value for her. She claimed that her daughter always wore them.
She said, "The earrings were gifted by her uncle one and a half years back, and Divyanshi always wore them. They went missing after a post-mortem was carried out on her body".
She also added that she had visited multiple police stations but received no resolution. While talking to the media, Ashwini said, "We are not asking for all the items. All we want is just her earrings".
Royal Challengers Bengaluru won their maiden Indian Premier League title this year on June 4. It was the first title for the franchise in the 18-year history of the tournament, prompting a massive celebration. As part of this, a victory parade was announced in the Chhinaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
However, the celebrations turned deadly when a stampede broke out, and as many as 11 people lost their lives while several others were injured. The incident triggered outrage over the security arrangements and lapses. What followed was the government, police, cricket association and the RCB franchise pinning blame on one another for the deadly incident.
A commission led by Justice John Michael D’Cunha was formed to probe the stampede and based on its findings, the Karnataka government has approved legal actions against RCB, even the management company DNA, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).
