Bengaluru-Rishikesh Train: In a major boost to cross-regional rail connectivity, Indian Railways will introduce the first-ever direct train service linking Bengaluru in Karnataka with Rishikesh in Uttarakhand. The new service, starting June 19, 2025, aims to improve access between the southern and northern parts of the country, particularly benefiting tourists and pilgrims heading to Uttarakhand.
Yeshwantpur–Rishikesh Express Special
The inaugural train, named Yeshwantpur–Rishikesh Express Special (Train No. 06597/06598), will operate as a special service on select dates. Train No. 06597 will depart from Yeshwantpur station in Bengaluru at 7 AM on June 19, 26, and July 3. It will reach Rishikesh at 10:20 AM the following day. The return train, No. 06598, will leave Rishikesh at 5:55 PM on June 21, 28 and July 5 and will arrive back in Yeshwantpur by 7:45 PM on the following Monday.
Bengaluru–Rishikesh Express Route
The train will travel through a long and diverse route, stopping at several important cities across different states. Key halts include Yelahanka, Hindupur, Dharmavaram, Anantapur, Kurnool City, Hyderabad (Kacheguda), Nagpur, Bhopal, Jhansi, Agra, Delhi (Hazrat Nizamuddin), Meerut, Haridwar and finally Rishikesh. This extensive list of stops makes it convenient for passengers from various locations to board or disembark.
Yeshwantpur–Rishikesh Express Special Amenities
The service will feature a variety of coach classes to cater to different passenger needs. These include AC First Class, AC 2 Tier, AC 3 Tier, Sleeper Class, and General Unreserved coaches. Passengers can also avail onboard catering and e-catering services. Large windows will offer scenic views throughout the journey.

The train will have a top speed of 130 km/h, though its average speed will be around 47 km/h due to multiple halts. The introduction of this service is expected to support tourism and pilgrimage travel, especially to Char Dham locations. Rishikesh, known for its spiritual heritage and adventure activities, is expected to see increased footfall.
Yeshwantpur–Rishikesh Express Special Booking
Bookings for the new train can be made via the Indian Railways website or ticket counters. This launch aligns with the Indian Railways' broader plan to improve long-distance connectivity and encourage tourism across India. It also complements the ongoing Rishikesh–Karnaprayag railway project, scheduled for completion in December 2026.
