Bengaluru is grappling with unprecedented high temperatures which has intensified the city’s ongoing water scarcity issues. The temperature in Bengaluru is soaring high, reaching up to 38 degrees Celsius, nearing the highest April record of 39.2 degrees Celsius set in 2016. The heatwave in Karnataka’s capital has disrupted daily life further adding to the difficulties for people living in the IT hub.

Residents are altering their routines to cope with the heat, with many avoiding outdoor activities during daytime, in an attempt to escape the scorching heat. However, the city’s nights are warmer too, with minimum temperatures surpassing those of Delhi and Gurugram.

Meteorologists at the India Meteorological Department (IMD) attribute the rising temperatures and water scarcity in Bengaluru to reduced rainfall from the northeast monsoon and the absence of winter rains, exacerbated by climate change and El Nino conditions. In addition, rapid urbanisation is also a contributing factor, as it leads to higher city temperatures.
