Bengaluru Weather Update: City Braces For Dense Fog, Sharp Drop In Temperatures As Cold Wave Intensifies | Forecast

Bengaluru Weather Alert: Bengaluru and multiple districts of Karnataka, including Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadgir and Vijayapura, are currently in the grip of a cold wave with temperatures plummeting to 5 to 8 degrees Celsius. Residents woke up to a chilly morning with misty conditions on Monday.

While the city is set for a prolonged dry spell, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast plunging night temperatures and dense early-morning fog, particularly in the capital and northern districts of Karnataka.

Bengaluru Weather Update

The meteorological department has forecast a continuation of "sweater weather" for Bengaluru and its surrounding regions over the next 24 to 48 hours. While the city is bracing for mostly clear skies and a pleasant daytime high of 27 degrees Celsius, a thick blanket of fog or mist is likely during the early morning hours.

The daytime temperature is expected remain around 27 degrees Celsius, while the nighttime temperatures will hold steady at 15 degrees Celsius. The persistent cold conditions and morning fog are expected to impact early risers and late-night commuters.

North Karnataka Weather Update

The northern districts of Karnataka are experiencing severe cold conditions. Bidar reported severe cold wave conditions, with a minimum temperature of 7.4 degrees Celsius. Similar harsh conditions are prevailing across Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Raichur, and Vijayapura, with official weather warnings in effect for December 22.

In contrast, coastal Karnataka is experiencing ‘relatively warmer’ weather conditions with minimum temperatures reported between 16 and 19.6 degrees Celsius.

South Karnataka Weather Update

A thick blanket of fog which settled over parts of South Interior Karnataka (SIK) and isolated pockets in the north is expected to persist for the next few days. The fog is being driven by prevailing north-easterly to easterly winds sweeping across the region. As foggy conditions are likely to prevail, commuters should anticipate continued low visibility during the early hours through mid-week.
