Several districts in Karnataka, including Bengaluru have reported unusually low temperatures, marking an early onset of winter. Bidar and Vijayapura witnessed temperatures plummeting to around 12 degrees Celsius, significantly below seasonal norms. Bengaluru also recorded a notable chill, with minimum temperatures hovering between 15-16 degrees Celsius, prompting residents to brace for a potentially harsher winter.
Typically, Bengaluru's winter spans from December to early February. However, this year, the city is experiencing cold conditions much earlier. Srinivas Reddy, former director of the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), highlighted this anomaly, predicting a more severe winter than usual, reported TOI.
IMD Bengaluru scientist CS Patil echoed similar expectations, forecasting a further decline in temperatures. He predicted that minimum temperatures in Bengaluru could range between 12 degrees Celsius to 14 degrees Celsius, while northern plains, such as Bidar, might experience sub 10 degrees Celsius readings.

Reasons Behind Bengaluru's Low Temperatures
Meteorologists attribute this unusual cold to multiple factors, including La Niña conditions, which are associated with cooler Pacific Ocean surface temperatures. Additionally, the abundant monsoon rains have left reservoirs, lakes and fields brimming with moisture, amplifying the cold. The combination of these elements has intensified winter conditions across the state.
