A 29-year-old woman was molested twice by a man while she stopped to help an injured stray dog in Bengaluru at around 11:50 pm on September 7 on Jakkur Double Road. The incident has since led to the registration of a police case.

According to the TOI report, the accused has been identified as Manjunath, an unemployed engineering graduate in his 30s from Hennur. He reportedly fell from his scooter while being chased by bystanders but managed to escape. Later, police traced him to a rented flat near Bagalur, where he was recovering from rib injuries sustained in the fall.

What All Happened ?

According to the TOI reports, the complainant, a Hebbal resident, was travelling with a friend towards Bharatiya City when they noticed an injured stray dog. After moving the dog to safety, she was allegedly molested by Manjunath, who approached on a scooter. The incident was repeated a short while later when the complainant returned to her vehicle.

Her friend, along with another motorist, chased the accused for nearly a kilometre before his scooter skidded. On being confronted, Manjunath shared his name and phone number, which were noted before helpline 112 was contacted. Although police arrived soon after, he escaped again.

What Police Said

Amruthahally police later tracked him to his rented apartment, where he had been staying for two months with rent reportedly paid by his girlfriend living abroad. He was issued a notice to appear before investigators, and his parents were also contacted.

A case was registered on September 12 under BNS Section 74 (assault or use of criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) based on the survivor’s complaint. Police stated that Manjunath was returning from a party at the time of the incident.
