A Bengaluru woman escaped a potentially harmful situation during a cab ride while travelling from Kempegowda airport to her residence. It all started when she boarded a cab, she thought was an Ola. However, the driver turned out to be an impersonator who tried extorting money from the woman. The woman, who midway realised that her life might be in danger sought police help and escaped unharmed.
Sharing her experience on social media platform X, the woman said that she booked an Ola can from terminal 1 of the Kempegowda station at around 10:30 pm on Saturday. A driver came, impersonating the Ola cab driver, and she boarded the taxi.
After getting in despite her suspicion, the woman realised something amiss as the driver did not ask for the OTP, nor he was using the Ola app. He asked her to enter her destination in his Maps app, claiming his official app wasn’t working.

As they drove, he demanded extra fare, and when she refused, he suggested transferring her to another car for the original rate. Feeling unsafe, the woman asked to be returned to the airport pickup stand, but the driver ignored her and stopped at a petrol station, demanding ₹500 for fuel.
Staying calm, the woman called 112, India’s emergency helpline, while also updating a family member about the situation. Police responded quickly, reaching the Ola pickup stand within 20 minutes and arresting the driver, later identified as Basavaraj.
"almost got trafficked/raped/looted/assaulted by a random cab driver who was let in by @BLRAirport in the Ola pickup station & impersonated to be one at terminal 1 of BLR airport at 10:30 pm had I not called 112, I’d not be here typing this," the woman posted on X.
