Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway: Police in the Kolar district of Karnataka have banned the movement of tractors, two-wheelers, and autorickshaws on some sections of the Bengaluru–Chennai Expressway that run through the district due to an increase in deadly traffic accidents.

The decision was made in response to a series of severe traffic accidents that, according to The Hindu, had killed over 15 people in over ten incidents over the past three months. Police claim that because of the expressway's high speed, slower-moving vehicles- which are frequently engaged in serious collisions- cannot use it.

The most recent occurrence, which led to prompt action, happened on June 9. According to reports, two passengers died instantly when a car lost control and struck the barrier close to the Hedaginabele toll plaza in Malur taluk. The local authorities quickly restricted entry for vehicles deemed risky on such fast-moving routes after the incident.

Authorities think that removing slow cars from this section will lower the chance of collisions and increase commuter safety in general. The combination of fast and slow traffic has made the expressway, which was built for high-speed transit, more hazardous.

Police have warned that tight enforcement would continue in the coming days and advised drivers to abide by speed limits and safety regulations. The prohibition is a component of a larger plan to enhance traffic control on one of the busiest highways in South India and stop more fatalities.
