Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway Toll Update: The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has finalised the toll charges for the 71-kilometre Karnataka stretch of Bengaluru-Chennai expressway, making it mandatory for commuters using the expressway to pay toll charges soon.

The stretch has been unofficially operational for the past seven months without any toll charges, connecting Hedigenabele near Hoskote to Sundarapalya near KGF (Bethamangala).

The toll charges are going to be different for different types of vehicles. The toll amount and type of vehicle are as follows: 

  • The one-way toll from Hedigenabele to Sundarapalya for a jeep and a car will be Rs 185, while the return journey will cost Rs 275. As per a report by Times of India, in the opposite direction — from Sundarapalya to Hedigenabele — the charges are slightly higher at Rs 190 for a single trip and Rs 280 for a round trip.
  • Light commercial vehicles, light goods vehicles, and minibuses will be charged Rs 295 for a single trip and Rs 445 for a round trip from Hedigenabele to Sundarapalya. The return direction will cost Rs 305 and Rs 55, respectively.
  • Heavier vehicles will have to pay higher tolls. One-way fee for heavier vehicles from Hedigenabele to Sundarapalya is Rs 620 and Rs 930 for a round trip. Travelling in the reverse direction will cost Rs 635 for a single journey and ₹955 for a round trip.
  • There is also an arrangement of monthly passes. Private car with 50 trips a month will be charged Rs 6,105 for one direction and Rs 6260 in reverse. 

The expressway, offering a smooth travel experience and a speed limit of up to 120 kmph, has become a preferred path for commuters.

Authorities have also raised concerns about two-wheelers entering the expressway despite being banned. Gaps in the boundary walls have allowed bikes to slip through, leading to several accidents.
