Bhojshala Verdict Sparks Fresh Hope For Hindu Worship Rights Inside Delhi's Qutub Minar Complex

After receiving permission to perform puja at the Bhojshala in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar, Hindu organisations are hopeful that they will also receive permission to perform puja at the Qutub Minar complex in Delhi. A delegation of Hindu organisations, under the banner of the United Hindu Front, will soon meet with senior lawyer Vishnu Shankar Jain, who represented Hindus in the Bhojshala case, to seek his advice, jagran.com reported.

“Broken idols of Hindu deities and symbols of Sanatan culture can be clearly seen in the debris and walls of the disputed structure. If Hindus can be allowed to worship at Bhojshala, they must also be given the right to worship the idols of deities that have been neglected for centuries in this historic complex of Delhi,” said Jai Bhagwan Goyal, President, United Hindu Front, as quoted by jagran.com.

Jain had also filed a petition in the Saket Court in the year 2020 for permission to worship in the Qutub Minar complex, which was rejected in 2023.

Jain Files Fresh Petition

After dismissal, he filed another petition, which is still pending. It is said that the iron pillar located in the Qutub Minar complex was installed in the Vishnu temple built by King Anangpal. It is called the Vishnu Stambh. Near the pillar also exists the disputed structure, which was built after demolishing 27 Hindu and Jain temples. It has been named Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque. This structure still contains broken idols of Hindu deities.

“A petition was filed in the Saket Court seeking the right to worship within the Qutub Minar complex. The court dismissed the petition. Subsequently, a fresh petition was filed, and notices were issued. This petition is still pending. We hope justice will be served, said Vishnu Shankar Jain, Senior Advocate.

Qutubuddin Aibak Built Mosques By Demolishing Temples: Former Director ASI

An inscription on the mosque's gate states that it was built after demolishing 27 Jain and Hindu temples. According to Dr Dharamveer Sharma, former director of the ASI, the disputed structure within the Qutub Minar complex was built by Qutubuddin Aibak under the name of Jama Masjid after demolishing Hindu and Jain temples. According to him, this structure is the country's second Bhojshala.
