KIIT Student Death: Arnav Mukherjee, a third-year BTech student at KIIT University, was discovered dead under strange circumstances in Bhubaneswar's Mancheswar district on Tuesday. This is the second unusual death at the institute in two months. Arnav was living in a university hostel. He was originally from West Bengal's Bankura area.
When locals found his body in a building that was still under construction, they promptly notified the Mancheswar police. The cops found the body when they arrived and took it to Capital Hospital for a post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death.
Investigations are underway into how Arnav got to Mancheswar, which is far away from his hostel, while the cause of his death is yet unknown.
The police have filed a case of unnatural death and are aggressively following up on leads, which include looking at CCTV video, questioning other residents of the hostel, and reviewing his call logs.
Officials at KIIT University have not issued any comments on Arnav's death, and the authorities have not yet commented on the occurrence.
Notably, the recent death of a Nepali student has already sparked concern at KIIT University. Prakriti Lamsal, a Nepalese third-year BTech student, was discovered dead in the hostel in February 2025.
Significant issues over student welfare and KIIT University's responsibility were aroused by her sudden death, which was considered to be a suicide and caused massive protests.
Following allegations of student assaults and misbehavior on campus, the Odisha government responded by forming a high-level committee to look into the matter.
