A meat shop owner in Bihar's Muzaffarpur was attacked on Wednesday morning as miscreants fired multiple shots at Mohammed in his mutton shop in Mithanpura's Rambagh area. Following the businessman's murder, the people of the area became furious and started creating a ruckus by blocking the road and burning tyres.

The police who reached the spot after being alerted brought the situation under control. The ruckus in the area had created disruptions in vehicular movement which was smoothened after the police personnel reached the area.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Awadesh Saroj Dixit said that Mohammed's body was taken to Shree Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) for post-mortem.

An investigation into the case is underway. The victim was fatally shot when he was on his way to the meat shop. The bullet hit his head, soon after which the meat shop owner fell from the bike.

The gunshot sounds alerted the locals in the neighbourhood who crowded at the area as the assailants fled the spot. The police said that they are looking into the CCTV clip to scrutinise the incident.

The reason behind the murder is yet to be ascertained and efforts are being made to record the statement of the victim's relatives. The police said that further actions would be taken based on the FIR registered by the family.
