Patna | Jagran News Desk: The centre on Friday released the second instalment of government's share of SDRF amounting to Rs 213.75 crore to Bihar for the damages caused by the floods. Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the situation in the state and approved the additional financial assistance.
Heavy rains have wreaked havoc in Bihar and have killed more than 70 people in the state while thousands have been affected. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), meanwhile, has said that Patna and its nearby areas are likely to receive more rainfall in the next two days.

1. The Central government on Friday approved the advance release of Rs 1,813.75 crore to Karnataka and Bihar for the damages caused by the floods. The approval came after Shah who reviewed the ongoing rescue and relief work of all flood-affected states.
2. Further, the government also approved the advance release of the second instalment of Centre's share of SDRF amounting to Rs 213.75 crore to Bihar.
3. “Keeping in view the severity of flood situation and the fund positions in the State Disaster Relief Fund account of Bihar and Karnataka, the home minister has approved advance release of Rs 400 crore to Bihar and R 1,200 crore to Karnataka from the National Disaster Relief "on account basis,” said a home ministry statement on Friday.
4. The relentless rains have killed more than 70 people in the state so far while affected thousands of people.
5. Meanwhile, the IMD has said that Patna and its nearby areas are likely to receive more rainfall in the next two days.
6. The Patna Municipal Corporation is also spraying chemicals in the flood water to prevent diseases from getting spread. “The chemical is being sprayed to make the water odourless and destroy insects,” news agency ANI quoted Saurav Kumar, Municipal Corporation official as saying.
7. Union State Health Minister Ashwani Choubey also called an emergency meeting of the doctors on Friday. In the meeting, he discussed ways to deal with the possibility of the spread of diseases due to waterlogging in the state, triggered by heavy rainfall.
8. Meanwhile, actor Sushant Singh Rajput has requested his fans to come together in order to help Bihar in overcoming the floods which have battered the state and claimed over 70 lives. “Let's please come together in any way possible to support our Bihar to get her out of this unfortunate predicament. May God be with us. Here's the Bihar chief minister's donation fund link I've found that we could use. Jai Hind,” he tweeted.
9. Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi also held a meeting with ministers and top officials of Patna Municipal Corporation to review the situation in the state.
10. While the NDRF has said that it has rescued over 10,000 people from the state capital, Patna. “NDRF has rescued ten thousand people, so far. Relief material distribution and their need for food are also being addressed,” said NDRF Commandant Vijay Sinha to news agency ANI.
