Lok Sabha Election 2024: Day after the 'Mahagathbandhan' alliance comprising the Congress party, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Left parties announced a seat-sharing deal in Bihar for the upcoming Lok Sabha election, Congress leader Pappu Yadav's office on Saturday announced that he will file his nomination from the Purnea Lok Sabha seat despite the seat having been assigned to the RJD.

Notably, Yadav has, in the past, served three terms as Lok Sabha MP from Purnea. On Friday, Yadav said, "Congress' flag will be established in Purnea...I have only one aim and that is to ensure that Congress wins 40 seats in Bihar...No one can separate me from the Congress' flag...I welcome the decision of Congress leadership to strengthen the Mahagathbandhan in Bihar."

The remark came after the 'Mahagathbandhan' coalition announced its seat-sharing deal. As part of the seat-sharing deal between the 'Mahagathbandhan' allies, RJD will field its candidates on 26 seats. Meanwhile, the Congress' candidates will contest 9 seats, including Kishanganj and Patna Sahib. Moreover, three seats have been assigned to the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) (CPI-ML).

Earlier, on March 20, Yadav had merged his Jan Adhikar Party (JAP) with the Congress. In Bihar, the polling for the 2024 Lok Sabha election will span all seven phases. There are 40 parliamentary constituencies across the state. The first phase of polling will be held on April 19, the second phase on April 26, the third phase on May 7, the fourth phase on May 13, the fifth phase on May 20, the sixth phase on May 25, and the seventh phase on June 1.
