Bihar SIR: The Election Commission is set to carry out Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in all the states after completing the process in poll-bound Bihar. The poll body is reportedly planning to start the electoral roll revision in the other states from the first week of October. The Election Commission on Wednesday also reviewed the preparations related to SIR in a discussion with the Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of all the states and union territories. The poll body also instructed the CEOs to closely study the guidelines given during the SIR in Bihar. The poll body on several occasions has emphasised that the SIR is essential, as it will increase transparency and will remove the non-eligible voters.
EC to conduct SIR in every state
The electoral roll revision in Bihar will be completed on September 30, and the final voter list will be published on the same day. The poll body also checked the implementation of the instructions and the challenges faced by the officers during the electoral roll revision in Bihar. Apart from this, a presentation was also given by the Bihar CEO regarding the details of the electoral roll revision in the poll-bound state. The Bihar CEO shared the details of challenges and their possible solutions in his presentation.
What challenges did poll body face in Bihar?
While providing details, he stated that the biggest challenge before the poll body was to deal with the fake narrative. He emphasised that he held multiple meetings with all the political parties and district election officers to deal with the issue. The Bihar CEO also stated that it was necessary to resolve all the doubts raised by them to maintain the transparency.
However, conducting SIR in all the states will not be a cakewalk for the Election Commission, as several opposition parties, including TMC in West Bengal, DMK in Tamil Nadu, and Congress in multiple states, have opposed the idea by stating that this is a move to remove the marginalised section of the society from the voters list.
