Congress MP and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi has sparked a political storm with his fiery address in Lok Sabha on Wednesday, where he denounced the interim trade deal between the US and India and accused the BJP-led Central government of "selling the country". He termed the deal a "wholesale surrender" with India's energy security being handed over to America.

The Raebareli MP also attacked the government over the tariffs, saying that the Indian exports will now attract 18% tariff, a six times rise from 3% earlier.

Gandhi's address irked the treasury benches with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju accusing the LoP of "misleading the House" by making "baseless statements." The after effects of Rahul Gandhi's address were visible on Thursday, with BJP MP Nishikant Dubey moving a "substantive motion" in Lok Sabha against the LoP, seeking his termination from Parliament.

Accusing Rahul Gandhi of misleading the country, Dubey said that his notice also sought a lifetime ban on Rahul Gandhi from contesting elections in India. "No privilege motion notice. I have given a substantive motion notice where in I have mentioned how he visits Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia with Soros Foundation, Ford Foundation and USAID, and colludes with anti-India forces," Dubey alleged.

"In the motion I have moved, I have requested that Rahul Gandhi's membership should be terminated and he should be barred for life from contesting elections," the BJP MP added.

However, Rahul Gandhi seemed unfazed by the motion brought against him. When asked about the motion by reporters outside Parliament, Rahul Gandhi asked the media persons to "try to do little bit of objective stuff."

"You are not totally employed by the BJP. At least try and do little bit of objective stuff, it gets really shameful. t's too much. You are responsible people. You are media people, you have a responsibility to be objective. You can't just take a word they give you everyday and run your whole show on that. You are doing a disservice to this country."

A substantive motion is an independent, self-contained proposal submitted for the approval of a legislative house or assembly, drafted to express a decision or opinion.

BJP Irked Over Rahul Gandhi's Speech

The BJP leaders called out Rahul Gandhi's "haywire" attitude and questioned his language in a parliamentary democracy. BJP MP Jagdambika Pal, who was presiding over the Chair during Rahul Gandhi's address, slammed the Opposition Leader, saying he "should be aware of the limits of his words and language".

"He can criticise the government as much as he wants, but the kind of accusation he's making, the way he's making it, is misleading the country. The world knows the details of the country's achievements: how India, despite COVID, has grown its economy from 11th to 4th in the world," Pal said.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi also attacked Rahul Gandhi, calling him an immature part-time politician who has provided no evidence for his recent claims. "He is an immature part-time politician. He has not presented any evidence for what he said yesterday. The Parliamentary Affairs Ministry will decide this (on BJP moving a privilege motion against Rahul Gandhi)," Joshi said.
