Partition Horrors Remembrance Day: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his Cabinet colleagues and other Bharatiya Janata Party leaders on Thursday observed the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, highlighting the sufferings of lakhs of people due to the partition of the country in 1947.

The Partition Horrors Remembrance Day is observed annually on August 14, is a reminder of people's enduring responsibility to strengthen the bonds of harmony that hold the country together.

"India observes #PartitionHorrorsRemembranceDay, remembering the upheaval and pain endured by countless people during that tragic chapter of our history. It is also a day to honour their grit...their ability to face unimaginable loss and still find the strength to start afresh. Many of those affected went on to rebuild their lives and achieve remarkable milestones. This day is also a reminder of our enduring responsibility to strengthen the bonds of harmony that hold our country together," PM Modi posted in X. 

BJP Attacks Congress Over Partition

The BJP attacked Congress on the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, calling it the deceit of Congress.

"The deceit of Congress, Nehru's greed, the divisive tactics of the Muslim League...These were the reasons for the partition catastrophe," the saffron party posted with a video clip on X.

Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar said the Partition caused immense suffering and had far-reaching human and strategic consequences.
