The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday accused Rahul Gandhi of insulting the citizens of the country by calling its election victory in the 2024 general elections a 'fraud'.
Taking a swipe, the BJP added that the voters will continue to reject the Congress for what it called as 'irresponsible and shameless' character and conduct.
BJP MP and former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, 'Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition, has made irresponsible and shameless comments.' "He has called the Election Commission a fraud, crossing all limits of shamelessness", the BJP leader charged.
"Narendra Modiji has been winning elections since 2015, and you (Rahul Gandhi) are calling that also a fraud. You are insulting the people of the country who voted for Modiji for his work, honesty and progress of the country under his leadership," Prasad said.
BJP's remarks came in response to allegations made by Gandhi against the Election Commission. BJP said that the statements were made out of 'frustration and anger' because people are not giving their mandate to the Congress.
Gandhi on Thursday presented purported voter data pertaining to a Lok Sabha constituency in Karnataka. He tried to prove that polls were rigged by the EC at the behest of the BJP. He added that it was done to help the BJP 'steal' votes and win the seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The Karnataka Chief Election Commission has written to the Lok Sabha LoP seeking enclosed declaration or oath with the names of electors which he claimed were duplicate. In an immediate response, Gandhi said that what he said publicly are his words, and asked the poll body to take it as an oath.
He said, "I'm a politician. What I say to the people is my word. I'm saying it publicly to everybody. Take it as an oath. This is their data, and we are displaying their data."
