BJP Women March To Rahul Gandhi’s Residence, Burn Effigy To Protest Women Quota Bill Failure

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday launched a major campaign against the Congress after the women's reservation bill fell in the Lok Sabha. As part of the campaign, senior BJP leaders, including Delhi CM Rekha Gupta, MPs Hema Malini and Bansuri Swaraj, among others, led a crowd of protestors towards the residence of Congress leader and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi.

State president Virendra Sachdeva, Union minister Raksha Khadse, MP Manoj Tiwari, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Manju Sharma, Vatsalya Gupta, and other party women cadre also joined the protest.

The protestors targeted the opposition by holding posters which read, "Nari Shakti Ka Swabhiman, Vipaksh Ne Kiya Apmaan." (Opposition disrespected the self-respect of women).

The party also led the social media campaign as posters were shared with 'Dhokebaz' written on Rahul Gandhi's image.

The female BJP workers stressed that half the country's population would never forgive the Opposition.

The BJP campaigned on this issue from the streets to social media. During the protests, leaders waved black flags and wore black bands on their foreheads. They carried posters accusing the opposition of insulting "women's power."

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi worked hard for the passing of the Bill, but the Opposition parties did not allow it," Hema Malini said, addressing the protesters gathered at Moti Lal Nehru Marg.

"It's a very sad day for us. It seems the Opposition has no confidence in women's power and they don't want them to have their rights," she added.

The Delhi Police had to resort to water cannons to disperse the women protestors marching towards Gandhi's residence.

131st CAB defeated

The 131st Constitution Amendment Bill to implement reservation for women in all legislatures across the country, including the Lok Sabha and the state assemblies, in 2029 and increase the number of seats of the Lok Sabha to 850, was defeated in the Lower House.

298 members voted in support of the Bill while 230 MPs voted against it. Out of 528 members who voted, the Bill required a two-thirds majority of 352 votes. The Opposition parties, including Congress, voted against the Bill.
