Blood Moon 2025: The sky gazers in most of the states are set to witness a special celestial event, a complete lunar eclipse in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. A total lunar eclipse or Blood Moon occurs when the Sun, Earth, and Moon perfectly align, causing Earth's shadow to fall on the surface of Moon, providing it a deep red glow. The celestial event will be completely visible for the Asia and the eastern regions of Africa and in western Australia. The partial view of eclipse will also be witnessed by the residents of Europe and most parts of Africa; however, Americans will not be able to see this rare event, reported news agency Agence France-Presse.

Blood Moon 2025: Where to watch in India?

Several states of India are set to witness the celestial event on September 7 and 8. The residents of multiple key cities of North India, including Delhi, Chandigarh, Jaipur, and Lucknow will be able to see the eclipse. Several western and southern cities such as Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Kochi would also witness the Blood Moon. Apart from this, the cities of other parts of the country, including, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Bhopal, Nagpur, and Raipur will also be able to witness the rare event.

Chandra Grahan 2025: When to watch?

While the eclipse will begin at 8.58 pm on Sunday, the Moon is likely to turn red at 11 pm and will continue to be in the rare phase till 12.22 am. The celestial event will end at 2.25 am on Monday, with the totality phase lasting for almost 82 minutes.

Chandra Grahan 2025: Why Moon turns red?

The astrophysicists believe that the Moon turns red during this event because blue light gets more scattered in the Earth's atmosphere than the red light, reported AFP.
