A shocking murder case in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, has left the community in disbelief after a widow allegedly killed her 64-year-old father-in-law, Pati Singh, in a brutal assault using a cricket bat. The incident came to light when a neighbour noticed blood seeping from under the door and immediately alerted the police.
When repeated knocks at the door went unanswered, the neighbour grew suspicious and contacted the authorities. Upon forcing entry, police found Singh’s lifeless, unclothed body lying in a pool of blood, with a blood-stained cricket bat nearby, believed to be the murder weapon. Inside the house, officers found Singh’s daughter-in-law, Aarti, who allegedly committed the crime, as per News18 report.
Confession and Allegations of Harassment
During police questioning, Aarti confessed to killing her father-in-law. She claimed that Singh had been harassing her for months, casting inappropriate glances and attempting to touch her without consent. According to Aarti, the situation escalated on Friday evening when Singh allegedly tried to drag her into a room by force, prompting her to take violent action.
Aarti told investigators that after locking her two children safely in another room, she entered Singh’s bedroom, stripped him of his clothes, and repeatedly struck him on the head with the cricket bat until he collapsed.
Family Tragedy and Ongoing Investigation
The household had already faced previous heartbreak. Four years ago, Singh’s wife and only son—Aarti’s husband, died due to COVID-19. Aarti, following a court order, moved into Singh’s home with her two children just four months before the incident.
While the case appears to be an act of revenge triggered by ongoing harassment, police are exploring other motives, including the possibility of financial gain. Investigators are examining whether Aarti planned the murder to access Singh’s retirement savings or other assets.
Authorities have taken Aarti into custody and are gathering evidence to verify her claims. The police are also waiting for forensic reports and witness statements to determine whether the killing was a crime of passion or a premeditated act for financial benefit.
