A letter with a bomb threat was found on an Indigo flight bound for Chennai on Sunday, causing panic among 169 passengers aboard, including a minister and a high court judge. The CISF immediately checked the flight and the passengers and confirmed that no bomb or any suspicious material was found on the plane.
The plane took off for Chennai after receiving clearance from the CISF at 6 pm. Later, the airline authorities filed a complaint with Peelamedu, and no causalities were reported so far, the Times of India reported.
Earlier, an Air India Express flight carrying approximately 150 passengers from Trichy to Sharjah encountered a technical issue just after takeoff on Friday. The flight remained in the air for over two hours before it could be landed safely. The Civil Aviation Ministry, in a statement, said, "The Air India Express Flight IX 613 from Tiruchirapalli to Sharjah has landed safely at Tiruchirapalli airport. DGCA was monitoring the situation. The landing gear was opening. The flight has landed normally. The airport was put on alert mode."
In September, an Indigo flight from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, to Hyderabad, Telangana, was diverted to Nagpur following a bomb threat. In a statement, IndiGo said its flight 6E-7308 had to be diverted because of the threat they received. The aircraft is currently undergoing inspection. Post completion of all security checks, the aircraft will be positioned back in the terminal area," a statement from Indigo Airlines read.
