A Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) jawan was killed and another one injured following an improvised explosive device (IED) blast on Wednesday morning, planted by Naxals. A team of security personnel was attacked by these Naxalites and the IED blast was triggered in Narayanpur district of the state, a police official said.

The incident occurred around 11 am in Aamdai Ghati iron ore mine area under Chhote Dongar police station limits when the security personnel were out on an area domination operation, a senior police official said, reported news agency PTI.

"Naxalites triggered an IED blast and opened firing on the patrolling team that led to an encounter between the two sides," he said.

Constable Kamlesh Sahu, belonging to the CAF's 9th battalion, was killed in the incident, while another constable Vinay Kumar Sahu sustained minor injuries, he said. The deceased jawan was a native of Janjgir-Champa district of the state, he said. The injured jawan was shifted to a local hospital, he said.

The search operation by a joint team of Indo Tibetan Border Police and District Reserve Guard is underway in the area, he added.

This comes as BJP MLA Vishnu Deo Sai took oath as the new chief minister of Chhattisgarh at an event in Raipur which was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, senior BJP leaders and chief ministers of other states.

The BJP on Sunday picked tribal leader Sai (59), a former Union minister who had also served as Chhattisgarh BJP chief, as the new chief minister.

As per the norm, the Chhattisgarh cabinet can have a maximum of 13 ministers including the chief minister.
