Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi on Wednesday called for an all-party meeting on September 17, a day before the commencement of the special session of Parliament.  The Union Minister made this announcement and invitations were sent through e-mail to all leaders of opposition parties to attend the meeting.

"Ahead of the parliament session from the 18th of this month, an all-party floor leaders meeting has been convened on the 17th at 4.30 PM," the minister posted on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

On August 31, Joshi announced a "special session" of Parliament for five days from September 18 but did not spell out any specific agenda for it. "Amid Amrit Kaal, looking forward to having fruitful discussions and debate in Parliament," Joshi had posted on X. “Parliament session we have called and there are important items. The agenda will be circulated very shortly,” PTI quoted Joshi as saying.

"There is enough time, and required mandatory time for the circulation of agenda will be followed", the minister had said.

However, he never revealed the specific agenda for the session. Now, several speculations have been doing the rounds if it could be about women's reservation bill, uniform civil code, simultaneous polls or other subjects.

Opposition Jibes At Centre

Opposition parties slammed the government for not specifying the agenda of the special meeting till now as only a few days are left for its commencement. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh took a dig into the centre and even shared a list of special parliament sessions that have been held before.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Derek O'Brien took a jibe at the government and said there was still no word on the agenda of Parliament's special session. "Two working days to go before the Special Parliament Session begins and still not a word on the agenda. Only two people know! And we still call ourselves a parliamentary democracy," he wrote on X.

Meanwhile, as per officials, the session will begin in the old Parliament building and shift to the new structure the next day. During the upcoming session, a resolution to rename India as Bharat may be brought in by the government.
