The Centre on Monday formally wrote to India Chief of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) for its coverage of the recent Pahalgam terror attack. In a letter addressed to BBC India head Jackie Martin, the Centre raised concerns over the media outlet's use of the term "militants" instead of "terrorists" in their coverage. The attack that killed 26 people was one of the deadliest attacks in the Valley since the 2019 Pulwama strike, in which 40 CRPF jawans were killed.

"Will be monitoring further reporting by BBC," government sources said, as quoted by a Times Of India report.

India Bans 16 Pakistani YouTube Channels

The Centre's action against BBC comes on a day it banned 16 Pakistani YouTube channels, including prominent outlets like Dawn News and Geo News. This decision follows recommendations from the Ministry of Home Affairs and comes in the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals.

According to news agency ANI, these channels, with a combined subscriber base of around 63 million, were accused of circulating provocative, communally sensitive content and spreading misinformation targeting India, its Army, and security forces. Authorities said the decision was necessary to prevent the spread of false narratives that could disrupt communal harmony and threaten national security.

The tensions between India and Pakistan are at an all-time high since the Pahalgam attack. New Delhi suspended the 1960 Indus Water Treaty, downgrading bilateral ties and shutting down Attari checkpost as it hit back at Islamabad over the terror attack.

NIA Takes Over Pahalgam Terror Attack Case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has formally taken over the Pahalgam terrorist attack case, intensifying its search for evidence and questioning eyewitnesses to unravel the terror conspiracy, officials said on Sunday.

They said the anti-terror agency registered a case in Jammu on Sunday following orders from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), and several teams are involved in the investigation.

After the dastardly terror attack on Tuesday afternoon that claimed 26 lives, a team of NIA officials led by its Inspector General (IG) was rushed to the site to assist the local police, the officials said. They said NIA teams have been camping at the terror attack site since Wednesday, looking for clues.

"The entry and exit points are being closely scrutinised by the investigating NIA teams for clues to the modus operandi of the terrorists. The teams, aided by forensic and other experts, are checking the entire area thoroughly for evidence to expose the terror conspiracy that led to the horrendous attack that has shocked the nation," an NIA statement said.
