An IndiGo flight en route to Chennai made a safe landing after a windshield crack was noticed mid-air, prompting precautionary measures by air traffic authorities.
The flight 6E1607, carrying about 75 passengers, took off from Tuticorin and was on its way to the Tamil Nadu capital when the pilots spotted a crack. According to the reports, the flight was at 15,000 feet when the crack was noticed.
The crew immediately alerted the ground control and sought landing. The permission was granted according to the protocols and the plane landed safely at around 3:27 PM.
The passengers were safely evacuated and the plane. According to NDTV, there was no emergency declared as the situation was brought under control.
"There was no emergency declared and the flight made a smooth landing," a senior officer at the Airports Authority of India was quoted as saying by NDTV.

On the cause of the possible crack, the official added that it will only be clear after the investigation. This is the second case within four days where the windshield of an IndiGo flight was detected cracked mid-air.
Three days ago, an IndiGo flight from Madurai to Chennai with 79 passengers on board made an emergency landing after the pilots saw cracks in the windshield mid-air.
The pilot noticed the crack in the front glass and informed the Air Traffic Controller at the Chennai airport.

Upon receiving the information, arrangements were made at the airport and the plane landed safely, the airport officials said. The aircraft was taken to a separate bay (Bay No 95) for parking, and passengers were disembarked safely later.
The cause of the incident was not known immediately, they said. Due to the incident, the flight's return journey to Madurai was cancelled, they added.
