The Ministry of Railways is increasing the coach capacity of a major Vande Bharat Express in South India. From September 24, the Chennai Egmore-Tirunelveli train, the country’s 27th Vande Bharat, will be expanded from 16 to 20 coaches.

The upgrade will add 312 more seats, raising the train’s total capacity from 1,128 to 1,440. According to The Indian Express, the expansion comes in response to high occupancy and steady demand on this busy route. The revised configuration will include 18 standard Chair Car coaches and two Executive Chair Car coaches, a notable increase from the original 16-coach setup launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Chennai Egmore-Tirunelveli Vande Bharat: Stoppages And Route

During its journey between Chennai Egmore and Tirunelveli, train number 20666/20665 Vande Bharat Express stops at six stations including, Tambaram, Villupuram, Tiruchchirappalli, Dindigul, Madurai and Virudunagar. The train operates on all days of the week except Tuesday.

Chennai Egmore-Tirunelveli Vande Bharat: Travel Time And Distance 

The Chennai Egmore-Tirunelveli Vande Bharat Express covers 653 km in 7 hours and 45 minutes. It runs daily except on Tuesdays.

Chennai Egmore-Tirunelveli Vande Bharat: Ticket Price 

The ticket prices for the Tirunelveli-Chennai Egmore Vande Bharat Express are as follows: AC Chair Car: Rs 1665 and Executive Chair Car: Rs 3055. 

The expansion highlights the Vande Bharat service’s success on this corridor. Adding four coaches reflects the route’s strong commercial performance and positive passenger demand.

Earlier this month, the Thiruvananthapuram Central-Kasaragod-Thiruvananthapuram Central Vande Bharat Express (train number 20634/20633) was converted from 16 to 20 coaches.
