Bengaluru News: Bengaluru has attracted another startup from Chennai. Fragaria, an agri-tech company known for premium strawberry cultivation, announced its relocation to the city, with founder Harish Varadharajan sharing the news on LinkedIn. He described the shift as "inevitable" while emphasising that Chennai will remain the startup’s first home.

Varadharajan wrote that he had always dreamed of building a global product from Tamil Nadu. “We gave it everything in Chennai and proved premium strawberries can be grown there against all odds,” he noted.

Reasons for the shift

Explaining the decision, Varadharajan cited several factors, including favourable climate, market opportunities, supportive agricultural policies, expat-friendly environment and Bengaluru’s thriving startup ecosystem. These reasons, he said, made the move unavoidable.

However, the company will not sever ties with Chennai. Fragaria’s R&D farm will continue operations in Tamil Nadu. “Chennai will always be our first home. I hope to find many more reasons to bring farms back to Tamil Nadu in the future,” he added.

Reactions online

The announcement drew warm responses on LinkedIn, with many users welcoming the company to Bengaluru. Messages such as “All the best” and “Welcome to Bengaluru!!! Wishing High Energy Shift...” reflected the supportive mood in the comment section.

Relocation trend

The development comes soon after another relocation story grabbed attention. Digital trucking platform BlackBuck announced in September that it was moving its office from Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road due to traffic congestion and poor road conditions. Its CEO, Rajesh Kumar Yabaji, shared the update on social media, referring to their ORR office as “home” and ending the post with a broken heart emoji.
