The Chennai Metro’s Orange Line, or Line 4, is a key part of Phase 2 of the city’s rapid transit expansion. Currently under construction, it will run from Poonamallee Bypass to Lighthouse, greatly improving east-west connectivity and offering commuters a faster, more efficient travel option across Chennai.

Chennai Metro Orange Line Benefits And Status 

The proposed metro route from Poonamallee Bypass to Lighthouse spans approximately 26.1 kilometers and forms a crucial part of Phase 2 of the Chennai Metro project. This corridor includes a total of 28 stations, with 10 of them located underground and the remaining 18 elevated.

A key feature of this route is its overlapping alignment with the Red Line (Line 5) between Porur Junction and Alwarthiru Nagar, enhancing connectivity within the metro network. Currently under construction, this stretch is expected to significantly reduce travel time, improve inter-city connectivity, and help decongest the city's already burdened traffic routes.

Chennai Metro Orange Line Ticket Prices 

Fares on the Chennai Metro Orange Line are expected to align with the pricing structure of the existing metro lines, maintaining affordability to ensure accessibility for the general public. According to a report by Magic Bricks, the minimum fare is set at Rs 10, while the maximum fare is expected to be Rs 50.

Chennai Metro Orange Line Timings And Frequency 

Although the Orange Line is still under construction, it is anticipated to follow the standard operating schedule of the Chennai Metro. Once operational, trains on this line are expected to run from 4:30 AM to 11:00 PM. During peak hours, trains will likely arrive every 4 to 5 minutes, while during non-peak hours, the frequency is expected to be around every 15 minutes.
