The Chennai Metro’s Orange Line, or Line 4, is a key part of Phase 2 of the city’s rapid transit expansion. Currently under construction, it will run from Poonamallee Bypass to Lighthouse, greatly improving east-west connectivity and offering commuters a faster, more efficient travel option across Chennai.
Chennai Metro Orange Line Benefits And Status
The proposed metro route from Poonamallee Bypass to Lighthouse spans approximately 26.1 kilometers and forms a crucial part of Phase 2 of the Chennai Metro project. This corridor includes a total of 28 stations, with 10 of them located underground and the remaining 18 elevated.
A key feature of this route is its overlapping alignment with the Red Line (Line 5) between Porur Junction and Alwarthiru Nagar, enhancing connectivity within the metro network. Currently under construction, this stretch is expected to significantly reduce travel time, improve inter-city connectivity, and help decongest the city's already burdened traffic routes.
