Chennai News Today: Several parts of Chennai, including Adyar, Tondiarpet, and Nerkundram, will experience scheduled power outages on July 19. The power cuts are scheduled to occur from 9 am to 2 pm. However, supply will be restored before 2:00 pm if the maintenance works are completed as planned.

Chennai Weather: Weekly Forecast

Chennai is likely to witness moderate to light rain with temperatures fluctuating over the coming week. On July 19, 20 and 21, the city is expected to witness cloudy skies with light rain. The maximum and minimum temperatures shall remain constant on these days, 35 degrees celsius and 25 degrees celsius, respectively. However, on July 22, the city is not predicted to receive any rain but will witness cloudy skies. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 36 degrees celsius and minimum temperature is expected to be 25 degrees celsius. On July 23, rain is likely to bounce back in the city with maximum temperature hovering around 35 degrees celsius and minimum temperature being around 25 degrees celsius.

Meanwhile, several regions of Kerala and Karnataka have been grappling with the aftermath of heavy downpours that have disrupted normal life. The northern Malabar districts of Kerala, particularly Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod, have been facing the brunt of the intense rainfall, leading to a range of incidents including flooding, uprooting of trees, property damage and minor landslides.

Karnataka Weather: IMD Issued Red Alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several districts, including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada and the southern interior regions. This alert signifies the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall, exceeding 20 centimetres in 24 hours, prompting authorities to take necessary precautions.

In response to the impending weather conditions, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Dakshina Kannada district has announced the closure of National Highway 275 between Sampaje and Madikeri from July 18 to July 22, between 8 pm and 6 am, to mitigate the risks of landslides and rock falls.
