Chennai One App: Chennai has introduced a new app to make commuting easier. Chief Minister M K Stalin on Monday launched Chennai One, a mobile app that combines all public transport services in the city on a single platform. The app, available on both iOS and Android, allows passengers to plan routes, buy tickets and use one QR code across buses, metro trains, suburban trains, autorickshaws and taxis.

The app is designed to work as a journey planner. A commuter can check real-time locations of buses and trains, select preferred routes and make payments through UPI or bank cards. It also supports multiple languages such as Tamil, English, Telugu and Kannada.

Chennai One App: How To Register

After downloading the free application, users are required to register with their mobile number. The number is verified through a one-time password (OTP). Once logged in, commuters need to fill in details such as their full name, e-mail address and gender.

Chennai One App: Planning A Journey

When planning a trip, the user enters the starting point and destination. The app requests access to the phone’s location and then offers different route suggestions. Options can be filtered by fewer transfers, shortest walking distance or best available route.

Example

For instance, a trip from Vadapalani to Thiruvanmiyur can be planned in a few clicks. The app may suggest taking the metro from Vadapalani to Ekkatuthangal, followed by a bus ride. It shows the bus stop location, the bus number (49) and the distance to reach it on foot. Estimated travel time and cost are also displayed. In this case, the app shows a 50-minute ride covering 13.4 km at a fare of Rs 35.

Chennai One App: Ticketing And Payments

After choosing the preferred option, the commuter is taken to the payment section. Once the transaction is complete, the system generates a single QR code ticket that can be used for the entire journey, even if it involves more than one mode of transport.

Officials said the app was tested for several months before launch and is expected to offer a seamless travel experience for Chennai’s commuters.
