The Chennai One app is set to allow commuters to obtain monthly travel passes for the city’s public transport, thereby making travel smooth for commuters in the city. The app was launched on September 22nd by Chief Minister MK Stalin. It is the first app that will integrate all modes of public transport in the city. Through this app, passengers can book tickets for city buses, suburban trains, Chennai Metro, cabs (within the city) and autos using a single pass.
Payments can be made using UPI or payment cards, across all modes of transport through a single journey record. The application is designed to be used by people from multiple languages, such as English, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.
The app, developed by Chennai Integrated Metropolitan Transport Authority (CIMTA) has already received a positive response from the residents of the city. Now, the CIMTA is partnering with the Chennai Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) to integrate the system of monthly passes within the app.
How Does MTC Offer Monthly Passes Now?
Currently, the monthly passes are available only at major bus stations like the Chennai Mofussil Bus Stand (CMBT), Tambaram, and Madhavaram, where people have to go for in-person renewal. Now, integrating the Chennai One App with the MTC will allow commuters to renew and buy passes digitally without the hassle of physical presence.
The MTC currently offers two monthly travel pass options:
Rs 1,000 Pass: Valid for all city buses except air-conditioned buses.
Rs 2,000 Pass: Valid for all city buses, including air-conditioned buses, throughout the month.
