In separate news, the Karnataka portion of the Bengaluru–Chennai Expressway will be completed by December 2025, Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari informed Parliament. While three packages within Karnataka are ready, the fourth, partly in the state, is still under construction. The 262-km expressway, stretching from Hoskote to Sriperumbudur, is expected to be fully operational by December 2026, against its earlier 2024 deadline. Gadkari attributed delays to land acquisition hurdles, compensation disputes, shifting of utilities and religious structures. Although the Karnataka stretch opened in December 2024, toll collection has not begun, with NHAI stating it will start once all four plazas are integrated.
