Chennai Power Cut October 16: The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) has announced a scheduled power outage in parts of the city on October 16, Thursday due to maintenance work. Officials said the power supply will be restored before 2 PM if the work is completed earlier.

The planned shutdown will affect multiple localities across Anna Nagar, Ambattur, and Thillai Ganga Nagar.

- In Anna Nagar, areas including Jayalakshmi Nagar, Dhanalakshmi Nagar, Moogambigai Nagar, Balakrishna Nagar, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Janakiram Colony, Bhuvaneswari Nagar, Ramalinga Nagar, and Thamarai Avenue will face power interruptions.

- In Ambattur, supply will be suspended in TVS Nagar, Kandigai Street, Annai Nagar Main Road, Padmavathy Nagar, Anbu Nagar, Santhosh Nagar, Mohan Garden, Water Canal Road, and Palla Street.

- In Thillai Ganga Nagar, the affected areas include Vanchinathan Street and Extension, Uthamar Gandhi Street, Thiruvalluvar Nagar, Nethaji Street, Kesari Nagar Main Road and 1st to 7th Streets, Bharath Nagar, Surendra Nagar, and nearby colonies.

Residents are advised to plan accordingly and complete essential electrical tasks in advance to avoid inconvenience during the outage.

In separate news, a 34-year-old lawyer, identified as Gunasekaran alias Kottivakkam Guna, was brutally hacked to death by a gang in Adyar on Monday evening. The attack took place near a petrol station in Indira Nagar while he was with a friend. Police suspect the murder was an act of revenge linked to the 2024 killing of another lawyer, B. Gowtham, in Thiruvanmiyur, in which Gunasekaran was an accused. The victim tried to escape but was chased down and killed. His body was sent for postmortem, and police are examining CCTV footage to trace the assailants. Gunasekaran reportedly had multiple criminal cases pending.
