Tamil Nadu Weather

Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for several districts in Tamil Nadu, predicting intense rain from October 12 to 16. This is due to a cyclonic circulation expected to form over the Bay of Bengal on Saturday. Western ghats and nearby districts are likely to experience heavy downpours on Saturday, while delta regions could receive up to 24.4 cm of rain on Sunday and Monday. Chennai, Tiruvallur, and Kancheepuram districts are also expected to see significant rainfall on Monday.

Moderate rainfall, ranging up to 6 cm, is forecast for most parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal during this period. Several coastal areas have already received rainfall in the past 24 hours, with Makkinampatti in Coimbatore district recording 12 cm, the highest in the state.

The weather department is closely monitoring the interaction between systems in the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, which are pushing moisture into the region. This development may signal the arrival of the northeast monsoon, which is predicted to set in around October 17, earlier than its typical date of October 20. The southwest monsoon is expected to fully withdraw from Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh within the next few days.
