After seven days of closure due to the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung, schools and colleges in Chennai have reopened. While some areas were affected by floods, causing disruptions, the situation has improved, allowing the resumption of normal activities in educational institutions.

Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena had earlier announced on Friday that schools and colleges in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, and Kancheepuram districts will resume normal operations on Monday. The educational institutions in these areas had remained closed throughout the week due to the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung.

Efforts are underway to address the impact of the cyclone, and in the last two days, measures were taken to clear any water stagnation within the school and college premises. The focus included thorough cleaning of campuses and ensuring the proper functioning of sanitary facilities, all in preparation for the reopening on Monday.

Tamil Nadu Half-Yearly Exams Postponed; Latest Schedule Here

On Sunday, the Tamil Nadu government opted to postpone the state's mid-year exams by two days, allowing additional study time for students affected by the floods. As per the revised timetable, the half-yearly exams for state board students are now scheduled to commence on Wednesday, December 13, 2023. The initial start date for the exams was set for today, December 11, 2023.

CM Stalin Donates Salary To Relief Fund

Before this, Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin had conducted a review meeting with the Chief Secretary and various department secretaries to assess the ongoing restoration efforts in the aftermath of the cyclone Michaung-induced floods in Chennai, Tiruvallur, and Kanchipuram districts. Stalin had also announced that he would contribute his one month's salary to the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund, aiming to support the state's recovery from the havoc caused by cyclone Michaung. He had urged all MPs and MLAs to follow suit in this initiative.
